Woman accuses Andhra cop of sexual assault, issuing death threats to her
VIJAYAWADA: A woman has accused a police officer of sexual assault and threatening to kill her, triggering an investigation by local authorities, at Vinukonda rural mandal in Palnadu district.According to police sources, the woman approached the Vinukonda police station on Wednesday and filed a complaint alleging that circle inspector Chinna Mallaiah entered her house and assaulted her after issuing threats to kill her. The victim stated that her family, originally from Vinukonda town, lives in a rented house in a nearby village in the mandal.On the day of the incident, Mallaiah, who reportedly owns a house in the same village, allegedly went to the woman's house and targeted her when she was alone. Following the complaint, police shifted the victim to a govt hospital, where medical examinations were conducted as part of the investigation.Past plaints arise as probe beginsOfficials said a case was registered against the accused officer based on the woman's complaint, and an inquiry is underway. Police sources added that Mallaiah earlier worked in the Crime Investigation Department (CID), and is currently in vacancy reserve (VR), awaiting posting.
The case has drawn attention due to past controversies linked to the officer, including allegations of threatening political leaders.(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
